elevated Y6vDz After a hard fought battle with cancer, on August 22, 2023, our world dimmed as we said our
final goodbyes to our dear father, Thomas Michael O’Sullivan, fondly known to many as
“Mike”, but most dearly to us as “Dad”. Born in Toronto on June 26, 1955, Dad’s final days
were filled with warmth, peace, and family.

A proud Canadian by birth, with roots in Shanbally and Ringaskiddy, Cork, our father’s
legacy will be lovingly carried forward by his children Ciara, Colm (Maria), and Dara, his
cherished siblings Stephen (Heather), Kevin (Molly), John, Eileen (Brian), Aïda (John), David
and sister-in-law Susan, He now finds tranquillity alongside his eldest brother Barry, and
devoted parents, Patrick Joseph O’Sullivan and Margaret Bridget (Breda) (nee BARRY)
O’Sullivan.

Our dad was a man of contrasts: stubborn, yet profoundly sweet. While he often chose to
speak with actions rather than words, his life choices reflected an unwavering desire to live
life on his own terms. And live it on his terms, he did—right up to his very last breath.
Though he was a man of brevity, Dad’s life was a testament to the deep love and
commitment he held for those dear to him. His playful spirit, and ability to bring laughter until
the very end and to every situation will forever be cherished and missed.

Professionally, Dad thrived as a passionate welder and crane operator, and a proud member
of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Not just a job, his work was a true calling,
and he would often quip that his dream was to never retire.

Our deepest gratitude extends to the Home and Community Care teams, especially our
dedicated nurse, Janice Mamaoag, and the compassionate Dr. Justine Baek, for their
unwavering support during our dad’s final days. We are also deeply appreciative of the
numerous doctors, nurses, personal support workers and all the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital
and the Odette Cancer centre.

To our dear uncles and aunts: Your strength, love, and support during these difficult months
have been an anchor for us, his children. We are forever grateful.
As we bid our Dad farewell, we carry forward the legacy of love, laughter, authenticity and
resilience that he embodied. Slán go fóill (Goodbye for now), our guiding star. Your spirit and
love continues to illuminate our paths.

My sincere sympathy on your dad’s passing to you all. I have a lot of fun memories of Michael growing up, living beside him my whole childhood life as children we played kick the can tag he was a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. I have wonderful memories of Mike.

My uncle Mike was a funny and easy-going guy, who didn’t want to adapt to the changing times, and was very set in his ways. I liked his stoical approach to hardships in life, and always asked him for advice growing up. His realist viewpoints were a breath of fresh air in times where disingenuous behaviour was all the rage. His “take it or leave it” approach, quick witted jokes and passion for brewing beer as well as passion for his work will be missed.

Mike was a kind hearted soul, I married him in 1987. He was someone who people who went to when they needed help with something. He was great with children.
We share three beautiful children and a daughter in law together. I am forever grateful for this.
His legacy will live on through our wonderful family we created together.

I remember working with Mike at the end of the eighties. He let me drive his Toyota Hilux and taught me how to drive trucks. A great guy that you never spoke to before he had a coffee in the morning. Thanks Mike and my deepest condolences to all of the family.
I knew Mike back in my high school and university days. He was a good friend of a few of my brothers, especially Pete, who attended De La Salle High School with Mike. We all worked together at the De La Salle Arena and had a great, fun friendship going amongst all of us who were on staff, under the watchful eye of George. Many gatherings and parties brought us together outside of work, including a trip to Florida for some of us. Mike was always kind and funny, with that ever present Irish twinkle in his eyes. My condolences to his family.
So sorry to hear of the loss of Mike. We had spent much time together during school at De La Salle and many of our classmates will be saddened with this news. He was in our wedding party and attended the wedding of our first child, some 17 years ago. Much time spent together working at the Del arena. A good man always willing to help out when needed, he will be much missed. Sincere condolences to the O’Sullivan family. Rest in peace my friend.

I’d not met uncle Mike in many years, but have fond memories of the warm, gregarious character he was!
