Victoria Korte (nee Simon) passed away peacefully in her 91st year of life on November 22, 2024. Born in the Volga-German community of Kamenka, Russia, on June 29th 1934, Victoria, her mother and three siblings survived a tumultuous journey fleeing the Soviet Union during WWII, eventually settling in Hausen, Bavaria at the end of the war. Courageous and resiliant, Victoria set her sights on a better life in Canada. She was the first member of her family to emigrate, boarding the ship to Halifax alone at age 19. After arriving in Toronto, Victoria found community and friendship at the St. Patrick’s German Catholic Parish in downtown Toronto, where she met her husband Franz-August Korte. They were active members of the parish’s Kolping Society. Subsequent decades in Toronto were spent raising their four children and instilling in them their Catholic faith and the values of perseverence and integrity. Victoria will be remembered for her warmth and her love of her family, faith and friendship. She was mother to Bernard (Monika), Connie (Michael), Tom (Helga) and Christine. Oma to Christopher (Laura), Danielle (Grant), Michelle (Matthew) Stefan (Kaitlin), Marie (Trevor), Michael, Eric, Matthew (Alexandra), Peter, Joseph, Victoria and Anthony. Great Oma to Colton, Everly, Brooke, Hailey, Madelyn, Melanie, Penny, Milla and Dominic. Victoria was predeceased by her husband Franz-August, brothers John and Jakob, and sister Barbara. She will be dearly missed as a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and remembered for her kindness and compassion.
